Lady Aggies’ historic season grounded out

OXFORD - The Hamilton Lady Aggies saw their season come to an end after suffering back-to-back losses in the Class 4A State Softball Tournament.
The Lady Aggies made it to the state tournament after going undefeated in the 4A West Regional Tournament, claiming the regional title.
The last time the Lady Aggies won the regional tournament and advanced to state competition was in 2009.
Once at the tournament, the Lady Aggies, who are coached by Andrew Howell, Barry Kerr and Carrington King, matched up with Rogers High School who was ranked as the top team in Class 4A according to the Alabama Sports Writer’s Association.
The Lady Aggies, who were 32-20 heading into the matchup, lost the hard-fought battle 3-0.
Michaela Otts had a strong showing in the matchup for the Aggies from the circle, but it wasn’t enough. She surrendered just two runs on six hits over five-and-a-third innings while striking out three.
Aubrey Sorrells led the Lady Aggies from the batter’s box with two hits in three at bats during the Lady Aggies’ game against the Lady Pirates.
Losing the first game put the Aggies in the loser’s bracket where they were matched up against Cleburne County High School, the ASWA’s third-ranked squad in Class 4A.
The Tigers struck first and carried the lead through the entire contest, as they posted runs in the first, fourth, fifth and seventh frame.

The Lady Aggies were only able to drive across two scores in the contest when Paisley Sorrells brought Lexi Dobbins across the plate with a sacrifice fly early in the bottom half of the seventh frame. Two batters later, Hope Smith drove across Aubrey Sorrells with a hard-hit groundball.
Otts took the loss for the Lady Aggies. She went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits.
