Gunner returns home with large escort

HAMILTON – The son of a Hamilton police officer was escorted home on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 9, led by a host of police officers, sheriff’s deputies and firemen.
Gunner Pendley, 20, son of Hamilton Police Department Lt. Jimmy Pendley and Kimberly Reese, suffered a brain stem injury in July 2019 following a tractor accident. He has spent the last four months undergoing treatment and therapy in Atlanta, Ga.
At the time of the accident, Gunner was treated at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Hospital’s Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit. He was transferred to the Shepard Center in Atlanta in September.
Hamilton residents and high school and middle school students lined Military Street to welcome the escort. Numerous law enforcement and emergency vehicles escorted Gunner’s vehicle through town. Participants included the Hamilton Police Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Alabama State Troopers, State Fire Marshall’s Office and Hamilton Fire Department.
