Four local baseball players were named to teams in this year’s sportswriters all-star team.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) released its 2021 all-state teams on Sunday morning, June 13.
The All-State team is compiled through submissions from coaches to sportswriters in their area and voted on by the ASWA prep committee. A pitcher, hitter, player and coach of the year is then selected in each class.
Brody Cook

Winfield Pirate pitcher Brody Cook, a senior, was named to the Class 3A’s second team.
Cook finished the season pitching 79.1 innings with a 12-3 record. He had two no-hitters--one was one walk away from a perfect game during the second round of the state playoffs. He also marked six shutouts.
He held walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP) of .744, 116 strikeouts and held 27.2 scoreless innings at one point.
Hunter Busha

Winfield in-fielder Hunter Busha, a junior, was named to the Class 3A second team as well. Offensively, Busha marked a .409 batting average with a .561 on-base percentage (OBP). He finished the season with 47 hits, three home runs and 44 runs batted in (RBI).
Eli Jackson

Hamilton Aggie pitcher Eli Jackson, a junior, was named to named to the Class 4A’s second team.
On the mound, Jackson struck out 81 batters, held an ERA of 1.28 and a WHIP of .84. He pitched 65.1 innings and had one no-hitter with a 7-4 record. Jackson completed the season with three shutouts--two of which were during the state playoffs.
Seth Knight

Marion County High School (MCHS) Red Raider Seth Knight, a sophomore, was named to the Class 1A’s team one. On offense, Knight finished the season with a .438 batting average and a .537 OBP. He complimented his batting with 34 stolen bases with a .919 SB%.On the mound, he held a 3.34 ERA, while maintaining an FPCT of .797.
