Lady Pirates snag first win against Lady Raiders

GUIN —  The Winfield Lady Pirates defeated the Marion County Lady Raiders 60-50 on Thursday, Dec. 1
The Lady Pirates’ first victory of the season brings their record to 1-4.
It was a close game through the first quarter, which ended with both teams tied 10-10. But the Lady Pirates pulled ahead in the second quarter, scoring 18 points to Marion County’s nine and going into the locker room at half time with a 28-19 lead over the Lady Raiders.
Both teams scored at about the same rate for the second half. Winfield scored 13 points in the third quarter to Marion County’s 12. Both teams scored 19 points in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Pirates held the lead and walked away with their first win of the season.
Winfield’s top scorer was Tinsley Franks, who scored 23 points. Franks shot 6-16 and hit 11 out of 13 free throws. Franks also recorded nine rebounds, one assist, three steals and one block.
Gracie McCarty scored 22 points and hit 7-19 shots, out of which she made 6-17 three-point shots. She also recorded two rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Julie Anderson made the most assists with seven, while also scoring three points. Madie Grace Lewis scored six points, Jayci Griffin scored five points and Anna Lynn scored one point.
For the Lady Raiders, Lily Robinson was the top scorer with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Leiporshia Lipsey scored 11 points and made four rebounds. Alecia Shack scored seven points and made six rebounds.
Rachel Roberts scored six points and made 10 rebounds. Bekah Junkin scored five points and made two rebounds.
Anna White and Jasmine Wilson each scored four points, and White made two rebounds.
