Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members from Winfield City High School competed in the FCCLA Students Taking Action with Recognition events in March. Three groups that competed were state finalists at the state leadership conference held in Montgomery.
Jaci Cook and MaKenzie Nix competed in nutrition and wellness, and their “Make Health a Habit” event won them a gold medal and an alternate position at nationals.
Ella Chaffin, Ella Brooke Crumpton and Will May won a gold medal in the “Focus on Children” event. They also advanced to nationals with a second-place finish.
Kailey Hall, Karley Sullins and Laken Wallace competed in “Promote and Publicize FCCLA.” They finished first with a silver medal and advanced to nationals. This was a tough competition where no gold medals were awarded.
Crumpton, May, Sullins and Wallace will be traveling to Denver, Colo., in July to compete in the FCCLA National Leadership Conference. This is an amazing opportunity for the students, and they are working very hard to raise the funds to attend. Cost for each person is anywhere from $1,800-$2,000.
Over the past few weeks, unexpected donations from a local club, the county commission and a parent in our school system have been collected. In addition to this, the students have some upcoming fundraisers scheduled, including a Swamp John’s ticket sale for Wednesday, May 3. This will be held from 4-7 p.m. in K & S parking lot.
The group will also be taking pre-orders for a T-shirt soon.
