Russell Hill

Russell Hill, 81, of Hamilton, Ala., passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at his residence.
Russell was born on April 24, 1942 in Shannon, Miss., to the late Hermit H. Hill and the late Lillie Bell Box.  He attended Shannon Elementary School. His first job was at age 12, working at a sawmill in Dorsey, Miss.  Later, Russell worked at McCoy Manufacturing in Sulligent, Ala.; however, he is more widely known as a business entrepreneur. First, as a hog breeder, then as a partner at H&R Lumber Company, then as a trucking business owner, then as an excavation business owner. Finally, he is most widely known and praised as the owner of Russell Hill's German Shepherds. All who knew him, loved him. He was a member of Ballard Church of Hamilton.
Russell was an avid hunter, fisherman, and guitar player. More importantly, he was a charitable servant of the Lord. On many occasions, he helped other family members and friends who were either in need or to launch their own businesses, with no expectation of anything in return. In particular, he often hosted fundraisers by cooking the best boston butts in world or by sponsoring gospel singings.
He is survived by wife, Mary Nell Weeks Hill of Hamilton; daughters, Ann Porter, and Bonnie Godsey (Eddie), both of Hamilton; stepson, Teddy Gunter (Donna0 of Sulligent; grandchildren, Veronica Bobo, Molly Beth Porter, Riley Porter, and Isabella Godsey; great-grandchildren, Cameron Holloway, Russell Cliett, and Victoria Bobo; and special friends and good neighbors.
