Winfield hosts Icebreaker Invitational

WINFIELD — The Winfield Pirates hosted the annual Icebreaker Invitational track meet on Saturday, March 2.
Over a dozen schools from around the region competed in the meet which marked the beginning of outdoor track season for many teams. Some teams, such as the Hamilton Aggies, had already competed in at least one meet.
At the Icebreaker meet, Hamilton’s boys and girls both won. The boys earned 184 points over Brooks in second with 154.5 points and Fayette in third with 140 points.
The Lady Aggies won with 153 points, beating out Brooks in second with 134 points and Caledonia High School in third with 129 points.
In the boy’s meet, Winfield placed sixth with 34 points, Marion County tied for 10th with Haleyville with 10 points each and Phillips placed 16th with one point.
In the girls’ meet, Winfield placed eighth with 21 points, Marion County placed ninth with 19 points and Phillips placed 11th with eight points.
For other nearby teams, Fayette’s boys placed fourth with 73 points, and Haleyville’s girls placed tenth with nine points. Lamar County’s girls placed fifth with 34 points, and their boys placed ninth with 16 points.
The Hamilton Aggies had several strong finishes over multiple events.
Hamilton’s girls 4x800m relay team placed third, and the girls’ 4x100 team placed second. The boys’ 4x100 team won.
Meg Wiginton won the girls’ 100m hurdles, and Elijah Dollar won the boys’ 110m hurdles.
Wiginton also won the girls’ 400m, and Hayden Ables won the boys’ 400. Bristol Evans was third in the girls’ 400.
Maya Jones placed third in the girls’ 1600 and second in the 3200, and Joshua Webb took second in the boys’ 1600 and in the 3200.
Kyra Casey won the girls’ 200, Taylor Biggerstaff placed third and Evans placed fourth.
Dylan Segraves and Hayden Ables took the first two spots in the boys’ 200.
Jane Wiginton won the girls’ 800, and Joshua Webb placed third in the boys’ 800.
Wiginton and Dollar also won the 300m hurdles, with Gracie Sanderson placing third in the girls’ 300m hurdles as well.
Hamilton’s girls’ 4x400 team won, and the boys’ 4x400 team took second place.
Jordan Parker won third place in girls’ high jump, and Biggerstaff won third in girls’ pole vault.
Elijah Robinson placed second in boys’ pole vault.
Casey won girls’ long jump and triple jump, and Wiginton placed third in long jump. Segraves placed third in boys’ long jump.
Casey won the girls’ 100m dash, followed by Biggerstaff in third. Segraves and Ables took the first two spots again in the boys’ 100.
Other Marion County teams also had top three finishers.
Marion County’s girls’ 4x400m relay team finished in third place, Marion County’s Jose Louis placed third in boys’ pole vault and Phillips’ Natalee Ward placed third in girls’ discus.
Fayette and Haleyville also had several top three finishers.
Haleyville’s Malachi Carroll won the boys’ 800m run.
Fayette’s boys’ and girls’ 4x800m relay teams won. Fayette’s Bailey Unger placed second in the girls’ 1600.
Fayette’s girls’ 4x100 team won their relay race, and their boys’ team placed second.
Fayette’s Destiny Robinson placed second in the girls’ 200, and Clark Vandiver placed third in the boys’ 200.
Unger and Haven Magouirk placed second and third in the girls’ 800.
Aliya Stevenson placed second in the girls’ 300m hurdles.
Fayette’s boys’ and girls’ 4x400 relay teams placed second.
Vandiver placed second in boys’ high jump. Robinson also placed second in girls’ long jump.
Payton Savage placed second in girls’ shot put, and Isaiah Stowe placed third in boys’ shot put.
Finally, Robinson also placed second in the girls’ 100.
The weekend before, the Hamilton Aggies competed in the Black & Blue Invitational meet at Northridge High School on Saturday, Feb. 24., where their girls placed second with 89.5 points behind Northridge with 204.5 and ahead of Paul W. Bryant High School with 68 points.
The boys placed third with 59 points behind first place Northridge with 209.5 points and just behind second place Central – Tuscaloosa with 60 points.
Casey placed third in the girls’ 200, and Jones finished third in the girls’ 800.
Wiginton finished third in the girls’ 100m hurdles, and she won the girls’ 300m hurdles.
Casey also placed second in girls’ long jump. Myia Sizemore placed third in girls’ javelin.
Hamilton’s girls’ 4x100 relay team placed second.
Dollar won the boys’ 110m hurdles. Robinson and Cole took second and third in boys’ pole vault.
Hamilton’s girls’ 4x800 relay team won first place, and the boys’ team placed second in the 4x800 and the 4x400.
