Overturned tanker blocks I-22 near Twin Monday


Emergency responders work to clean up after a tanker truck flipped over on I-22 near Twin during Monday’s foggy morning

TWIN — Three lanes of I-22 were closed early Monday morning, June 3, after a truck flipped over on the eastbound side of the interstate near mile marker 25.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the accident occurred around 4:30 Monday morning.
Emergency personnel and hazmat crews arrived on scene to help any potential victims and begin the cleanup process after the truck spilled thousands of gallons of tar on I-22.
Both eastbound lanes were closed, and one westbound lane was closed for emergency vehicles and personnel to work to clear the spill and remove the overturned truck from the road.
As of Monday morning, there were no reports of any injuries or fatalities.
Marion County EMA is asking people to avoid water activities in Cooper Creek and West Luxapalilla Creek until further notice.
