County-wide alert system coming soon

Marion County EMA Director Russ Taylor is raving in a good way about the new Rave Alert Mass Notification System.

MARION COUNTY — The Rave Alert Mass Notification System is coming to Marion County soon, and will give officials the ability to send urgent emergency and non-emergency messages simultaneously to everyone in the county.
The system is being implemented across the entire state, as well. Marion County Emergency Management Agency Director Russ Taylor shared more information on the system.
“This is a statewide system for Alabama EMA and is being funded by the state,” Taylor said. “Because of the way EMA is set up by counties, the state’s system will also be set up by counties. Each county will be an authorized user of the system the state will pay for.”
Taylor said he will have a geographical boundary of the county line for his notifications. So far, the state is not limiting users for the program, so EMA will be able to add authorized users, such as the county engineer, the mayors of each municipality and other officials.
Each municipality will then choose how they want to manage their system, such as adding more users like fire chiefs and police chiefs.
