Sarina Lynn Benton Cantrell

Ms. Sarina Lynn Benton Cantrell, 56, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, in the DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Sarina was born in Winfield on Feb. 3, 1967, to J. L. “Fuzz” and Mary Lee “Mack” Box Benton. She attended Rock City Church of God and was a 1985 graduate of Winfield City High School.  Sarina enjoyed spending time with her cousins, shopping, and going out to eat.

Dorothy Bolton

Mrs. Dorothy Bolton, better known as Dot, 87, of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, in the Kemp Meadows Memory Care Facility. Mrs. Bolton was born on June 2, 1936, in Fayette County, to Houston and Ada Bell Lee Bly. Dot was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church and a 1954 graduate of Winfield High School. She was the personnel director and office manager for Reltoc Manufacturing for more than 30 years. She was later employed with Fruit of the Loom Industries in Fayette before her retirement in 2001.

Jesse Littleton Williamson

Mr. Jesse Littleton Williamson, 80, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at his residence. Mr. Williamson was born in Walker County, Ala. on Nov. 3, 1942, to John and Eva Clark Williamson. Jesse was a very hardworking man who began working at an early age farming and in chicken houses, before beginning his career in oil drilling. In his spare time, Jesse enjoyed collecting baseball cards and knives, fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking and building airplanes that he powered by fuel.

Lorraine Alice Stai Smith

Mrs. Lorraine Alice Stai Smith, 89, of Brilliant, Ala., formerly of Moline, Ill., went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 28, 2023. Mrs. Smith was born in EauClaire, Wis. on Feb. 3, 1934, in East Moline, Ill., to Francis Clayton and Anna Marie Fedie Stai. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Moline and a graduate of Rock Island High School in Rock Island, Ill. Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with her world revolving around her family and extended family. Mrs. Smith hosted many family events and holiday get-togethers.

Timothy Lowell Franks

Mr. Timothy Lowell Franks, better known as Tim, 65, of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at his residence. Tim was born in Guin, Ala., on May 21, 1958, to Lowell and Faye Atkinson Franks. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church and attended Winfield Church of Christ for many years. Tim was a 1976 graduate of Marion County High School and a member of the 1973 State Champion football team. He later attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he earned a B.S degree in finance.

Gloria Gean Kimbrell

Mrs. Gloria Gean Kimbrell, 80, of Brilliant, Ala., passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, in the Northwest Medical Center. Mrs. Kimbrell was born on April 14, 1943, to Norman and Clara Mae Fowler Willcutt. She was born and raised in Rock City, Ala., where she also attended Liberty School. Gloria Gean was a long-time member of the Brilliant Church of God. She spent much of her life employed as the custodian for State Bank &Trust, where she later retired.

Robert Timothy Tidwell

Mr. Robert Timothy Tidwell, better known as Tim, 58, of the Hubbertville community, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, in the DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Tim was born in Winfield, Ala. on April 11, 1965, to Robert “Bud” Tidwell and Sarah “Jody” Plunkett. Tim was raised by his stepmother, Patty Tidwell, and he attended Hubbertville High School. He enjoyed drawing, collecting Hot Wheels, putting together model cars, being with his family, cooking out with his brothers, and anything outdoors.

Lisa Marie Webster

Lisa Marie Webster Dawson, 44, of Birmingham, Ala., passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, in the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. Lisa was born in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 2, 1977, to Curtis and Glenda Headley Webster. Lisa was a member of the Homewood Church of Christ and a 1996 graduate of Tarrant High School.

Samuel Barnes

Mr. Samuel Barnes, better known as Sam, 86, of Winfield, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in the Diversicare Heath Care Center in Winfield. Mr. Barnes was born in Fayette County, Ala. on Oct. 21, 1936, to LeRoy and Ora Mae McKay Barnes. Sam was employed in the coal industry for 33 years. He enjoyed Alabama football, coon hunting, and spending time with his family.

Dallas Dewayne Bowling

Mr. Dallas Dewayne Bowling, 53, of Winfield, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in the U.A.B. Medical Center in Birmingham. Dallas was born in Ill. on September 30, 1969, to John C. Bowling and Geneva Patton Bowling.  He was previously employed as an inspector with Tiffin Motor Homes.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, his adoptive parents, Norman and Bertha Schindel, and a brother Greg Bowling.

Karen Lynn Brown, 53, of Hamilton, Ala., passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at NMMC-Hamilton. She was born in Marion County, July 25, 1969, to Jerry Rea and Brenda Hughes Rea.
Karen was a spirited woman. Always ready to laugh, mischievous, and fun loving. May she fly free with her mother, until we meet again.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Kerry Post; daughter, Haley; sons, Killian, Austin, and Jarom; and two grandchildren, Alia and Jason; She will be missed by her father Jerry; sisters, Tammy and Patsy; her aunt, Kathy; and many others.

Jimmy D. Martin, 84, of Fayette, Ala., passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, in the Fayette Medical Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1939 in Aliceville, Ala., he is the son of the late William Newton and Sarah Bentrice Flippo Martin, and the husband of Margene Harrod Martin. He lived in the Covin Community the past nine years and was pastor of the Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Crossville. He pastored and built several churches in several states.

Mrs. Tommie Jo Box Moore, 73, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in the Aspire Physical Recovery Facility. Mrs. Moore was born on May 13, 1950, in Winfield, to Virgil and Vera Hawkins Box. Tommie was a member of the Forestdale Free Will Baptist Church. She was a 1968 graduate of Winfield City High School and later attended Brewer State Community College. Tommie spent much of her life as a homemaker caring for her husband and sons, often volunteering with their school programs.

Charles Cole, 73, of the Pine Springs Community in Sulligent, Ala., passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, at his residence.
Born Feb. 18, 1950 in Guin, Ala., he is the son of the late Troy and Sallie Mae Kennedy Cole. He lived in the Pine Springs Community and retired from Tombigbee Electric Cooperative after 33 years of service.

Watson McCray

Watson McCray, 95, passed away June 28, 2023, at his daughter's home in Concord, N.C.
Mr. McCray was born in Whitesburg, Ky. on March 29, 1928. He was married on Dec. 13, 1949, to the late Liza Bates McCray. He lived in many places, but was a resident of Hamilton, Ala. for over 46 years. While in Hamilton, he spent his life working, raising his kids, and tending to his farm. He was a devout Christian. He loved his family and telling stories of his life.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 66 years, Liza McCray.

Jean Cox, 90, of Guin, Ala., passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin.
Born Dec. 3, 1932 in Hamilton, Ala., she is the daughter of the late Flint and Sibbie Dill Clark, and the wife of the late Coy Cox, Jr. She lived in Guin most of her life. She was a RN and Director of Nurses for Marion County Hospital, and also worked for Sunset Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.

Miss Karen Atkinson, 58, of Guin, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 in the UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. Karen was born on Sept. 25, 1964, in Florence, Ala. to Lawrence and Janice Stokes Atkinson.

Joyce Ann Sims Blisard

Ms. Joyce Ann Sims Blisard, 77, of Guin, Ala., passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, in the DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Ms. Blisard was born on Feb. 22, 1946, in Fayette County, Ala., to Rass and Bethel Wyers Sims.
Ms. Blisard was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the owner/operator of Joyce’s Barber Shop in Fayette for over 30 years. Joyce Ann enjoyed working in her flowers and sewing.

Mildred Cobb Connelly, 80, of Hackleburg, formerly of Montgomery, Ala., passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton.

She was born on April 18, 1943, in Montgomery, to the late Hubert McCoy Cobb and the late Mazel Combs. She attended Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery. She previously worked as a seamstress and as a floral designer. She enjoyed sewing, flowers, and collecting things.

Arley Masengale

Arley Masengale, 79, of Guin, Ala., passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, at his residence.
Born April 11, 1944 in Monroe County, Miss., he is the son of the late Arlie Truman and Chester Ophelia Brewer Masengale, and the husband of Margaret Spruiel Masengale. He lived in Guin most of his life and retired from 3M Company. He served on the Guin Water Board and the Housing Authority Board. He was also a member of the Guin Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church of Guin.

Hilda Deweese Dudley

Mrs. Hilda Deweese Dudley, 77, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at her residence. Mrs. Dudley was born May 27, 1946 in Berry, Ala. to William and Mattie Willis Kimbrell. She was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church of Fayette. Hilda was a 1964 graduate of Fayette County High School. She was employed for more than 20 years as a GED Instructor for the Adult Education Program. In her spare time, Hilda enjoyed baking and cooking. Hilda also enjoyed sewing; she was a very talented seamstress, often making clothes for her daughter and family.

Donna Lynn Panter Grimes

Mrs. Donna Lynn Panter Grimes, 59, of Brilliant, Ala., passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Northwest Regional Medical Center. Donna was born on May 12, 1964 to Paul and Willar Dean Panter. She was a 1982 graduate of Carbon Hill High School. Donna was a very quiet and humble person, often spending her spare time reading and spending time with her family.

Bobbie Knight, 78, of Guin, Ala., passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, at her residence.
Born April 1, 1945, in Beaverton, Ala., she is the daughter of the late Johnnie Jackson and Gladys Mae Cantrell Robertson, and the wife of Robert Earl Knight. She lived in Guin most of her life and enjoyed camping, gardening reading, and shopping.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Knight; a daughter, Debbie (James) Miles; two grandchildren, Rob (Laura) Miles and Derek (Angela) Miles; five great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

John Jackson

John Jackson, 42, of Guin, Ala., passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, in Bellgreen, Ala.
Born Nov. 20,1980, he is the son of Donald "DJ" Jackson and the late Nancy Carol South Evans. He attended Brilliant High School and had worked for Deer Valley Homes.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Barnes Jackson; a sister, Amy Vandiver (Trent); father, Donald "DJ" Jackson; two nephews, Hagen Price and Brodie Vandiver; two nieces, Lauren Beasley and  Madelyn Price; and two great-nephews, Grayson Beasley and Jayden Duncan.

Mack Bishop

Mack R. Bishop, 88, of Detroit, Ala., passed away May 23, 2023 at the Marion Regional Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 15, 1934 in Hamilton to the late Henry Green Bishop and Myrtle Raymond Feltman Bishop.  He served in the Air Force. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fresh water fishing. He also was a bird enthusiast and enjoyed working with his hands.
Military graveside services were held on Wednesday May 31, 2023 at Barnesville Cemetery.

Dorothy Jo Byars

Mrs. Dorothy “Dee” Jo Byars, 94, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Winfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2023, in the Somerby St. Vincent’s One Nineteen Assisted Living Facility. Dee was born on Nov. 11, 1928 in Decatur, Ala. to Paul Franklin and Doris Ferguson Hardeman.
She was a 1946 graduate of Winfield City High School and later attended University of Montevallo. After college, Dee married the love of her life, John B. Byars Jr., and together they had two children.

Mrs. Ramona Ann Doss Keeton, 83, of Brilliant, Ala., passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at her residence. Mrs. Keeton was born in Winfield, Ala. on Dec. 1, 1939 to Robert Lee and Mary Jo May Doss. Ramona was a 1958 graduate of Winfield City High School. She spent much of her life as a homemaker and taking care of her husband and children. In her spare time, Ramona enjoyed antiquing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Pauline Elliott Macklin

Mrs. Pauline Elliott Macklin, 92, of Birmingham, formerly of the Glen Allen area, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at her residence. Mrs. Macklin was the youngest of seven children born to Roy and Mattie Donald Elliott. Pauline accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was a long-time member of the Palisades Church of Christ in Birmingham. She married James D. Montgomery and together they had six children.

Leroy Blair

Leroy Blair, 84, of Guin, Ala., passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, in the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Born Sept. 11, 1938 in Monroe County, Miss., he is the son of the late William Franklin and Laura Lee Broom Blair, and the husband of Geraldine Pearce Blair. He lived in Guin since 1965 and retired from Arvin Industries in Fayette after working 36 years. He was a Member and Deacon of Mt. Hebron Primitive Baptist Church.

Sharon Gunnin

Mrs. Sharon Gunnin, 78, of Hackleburg, Ala., passed away peacefully at her home on May 5, 2023. She was born Sept. 26, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio., to Dell and Virginia Young. She was the oldest of eight children. Sharon spent her life always working. She raised five kids, step-children, and grandchildren in addition to working as a CNA and at the trailer plant.

Danny Wayne Harbin

Mr. Danny Wayne Harbin, 71, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, in the DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa after a long fight with cancer. Danny was born on November 2, 1951 in Fayette County, to Grady and Elsie Smith Harbin. He was a member of the Fayette Church of Christ and a 1970 graduate of Hubbertville High School. Danny was employed with Continental Conveyor and Equipment Company, Inc. in Winfield for 48 years.

Peggy Ann Hightower

Peggy Ann Hightower, 84, of Aberdeen Miss., passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Care Center of Aberdeen.
She was born in Magee, Miss. on Sunday, Nov. 27, 1938, to Mildford Bogan and Rubie Lee Bogan.  
Peggy worked for Walmart for 30 years where she was loved by everyone and never met a stranger.
