Kevin John O’Brien

Kevin John O’Brien, 88, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, after a long and beautiful life filled with compassion, laughter, faith and love for others.
Kevin was born on Dec. 29, 1937, in Sydney, Australia, to the late Margerie Hogan and William O’Brien. Proud of his Australian roots, Kevin carried with him a personality that was truly unforgettable. He never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone he encountered feel welcomed, valued and cared for.
Kevin dedicated his professional life to caring for others as a registered nurse, eventually retiring from North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Nursing was a fitting profession for a man with such a compassionate heart. His kindness extended far beyond his career and remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.
Kevin was a true gentleman—kindhearted, chivalrous, compassionate and wonderfully funny. He was the kind of person who greeted you warmly when you arrived and walked you to the door when it was time to leave. He loved to laugh, enjoyed the company of others and lived each of his 88 years to the fullest. He also dearly loved his faithful companion, Angel, who held a very special place in his heart.
Kevin’s Christian faith was an important part of his life. Those who loved him find comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with the loved ones he missed so deeply.
Although his earthly journey has ended, Kevin leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, kindness and memories that will continue to live in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. His was a life well lived and a heart well loved.
Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy “Goldie” O’Brien; his parents, Margerie Hogan and William O’Brien; his sister, Maureen Hogan; and his stepdaughter, Lynn Gann.
A Celebration of Life honoring Kevin will be held at Love Joy Church on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, from 1-3 p.m. Friends are invited to gather together to celebrate Kevin and the remarkable life he was blessed to share with those around him.
