HPD Officer Stephen Trimm promoted to sergeant

HAMILTON — During the Hamilton City Council’s Tuesday, Aug. 4, meeting, the council voted unanimously to approve a recommendation to accept the promotion of Hamilton Police Department Officer Stephen Trimm to the position of sergeant with the HPD.
Trimm has been an officer with the department since 2024. HPD Lieutenant Trey Webb noted, “Stephen Trimm started his law enforcement career at the city of Tuscaloosa in 2018. While there, he worked with the human trafficking task force, interdiction unit, major crime response unit, crime suppression unit and was a field training officer.
“He came to HPD in July of 2024. Since his move to the department, he has been a true asset not only to the police force, but our city. He was promoted to corporal in April of 2025, where he served as a shift supervisor, field training officer and became our certified and licensed drone pilot.
“His positive leadership and the ability to maintain an outstanding and progressive work environment for the men and women of the department played a major role in his promotion to sergeant.
“In his new role, Stephen will serve as the supervisor of the entire patrol division.”
HPD Chief Jordan Carter also added a few comments about his department and its leadership.
“Everyone sees the chief, but the reality is that our supervisors are the ones handling much of the day-to-day operations and making sure our officers have the direction and support they need,” Carter said.
“Having leaders I trust in those positions allows me to spend more time in the community, listen to feedback, build relationships and focus on planning for the future of both our department and our city.
“A department is only as strong as the people leading it, and I’m proud of the leadership team we have in place to lead such a great team of dedicated police officers."
In other HPD business, the council also approved a recommendation to start accepting applications for the position of an APOST Law Enforcement Certified Police Officer for the local department.
