Mississippi kidnapping suspect arrested in Hamilton

HAMILTON —David Tyler Jones, 19, was arrested at the Hamilton Walmart after fleeing from Monroe County, Miss., last Friday, Sept. 11.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Jones was on the run for the kidnapping of a 14-year-old earlier that week before taking a vehicle to flee across the state line into Marion County.
According to the Hamilton Police Department, law enforcement was advised by dispatch that afternoon around 1:45 to be on the lookout for a blue Chevrolet Malibu with Mississippi plates that had been stolen and was connected to the kidnapping.
Monroe County shared information on the suspect’s possible location, placing him along Bexar Avenue West near Regency Place. Officers did not find the suspect’s vehicle in the area, so they spread out and began searching the city.
The search continued for several minutes until another lead came in that gave law enforcement a more recent and precise clue of the suspect’s location.
At about 2:12 on Friday afternoon, law enforcement found the Malibu in the Walmart parking lot. It was unoccupied and parked around the side of the building near the rear exit.
Officers from Hamilton PD, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the district attorney’s office took Jones into custody at about 2:15 without incident.
Jones was transported to the Marion County Jail to be held pending further legal proceedings, a statement from the Hamilton Police Department stated.
